The following programs are offered by the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley. To register for a council sponsored program please fill out a Council Event Registration Form and return to the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley.

Worldwide Day of Play

Let’s empower all kids ages 6-14 to turn off their TV’s and engage in active, healthy, fun play.  Take some time and play with us on Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play.  Some of the activities we’ll be doing are building sandcastles, playing tag, running relay races, doing an obstacle course, playing soccer, parachute games and so much more.  Girls will receive a participation patch and a snack.

Tremendous Try-It's

Join Carleton College Girl Scouts and other volunteers for a fun filled morning and earn a Try-It.  Try-It and snack included.  Each session will have a different Try-It to earn.  If you’re interested in bringing a bag lunch, there will be a place for you to eat after the program.  Check our website in the fall, additional dates and topics might be added.

Brownie River Bend Adventure

Come and spend the afternoon at River Bend Nature Center exploring the out-of-doors. During the day you will do activities to complete the Watching Wildlife Try-It. Dress for the weather, you will be outside. Try-It included. River Bend patches are available from the council for an additional $1.50.

MEA DAY-Camp

Come out to camp for some fun in the crisp fall air.  Bring some friends or come by yourself.  Your day will begin at 8:30am with songs, games and a flag ceremony.  Each day will bring a new adventure to have and new friends to meet.  At the end of the day we’ll wind down with an all-camp game and a closing flag ceremony.  By the time you leave at 4:30pm you’ll be exhausted from all the fun.  Take a sneak peek at what we have brewing so far: Thursday, Kayaking, Geo-caching, Candle Making, Nature Hike, and Ropes Course.  Friday, Canoeing, Archery, Dream Catchers, Fire Building, Smore’s, and Teamplay Tubes.

All girls will need to arrange their own transportation and bring a bag lunch.  We’ll provide the qualified staff, all the activities, and two snacks each day.

Harvest Festival

Celebrate autumn at our amazing harvest festival! Hayrides, straw pile searches, and pumpkin hunts will abound!  Work an apple press to make cider, race wheelbarrows, compete in the pumpkin roll relay, and enter the scarecrow contest with your troop.  Sample the many different flavors of the autumn harvest.

Halloween Family Walkabout

Bring the whole family out to camp for a great fall experience.  Build scarecrows, make crafts, tour a haunted house, take a hay ride, and much more.

Tea for Two

Bring your favorite doll, American Girl or otherwise and come for a tea party. We’ll have crumpets and tea and make a special keepsake to remember the day. Girls will complete the requirements for the Manners Try-It.  Try-it included.

Little Red Riding Hood

This funny and enchanting re-telling of Charles Perrault's classic fairy tale is a great way to introduce youngsters to the fun and magic of live theater-complete with music, colorful costumes, marvelous sets and professional actors. This performance will be held exclusively for the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley. After the show the actors and actresses will be available for questions and autographs.  Participation patch included for all Girl Scouts.

Water Park of America

No Chills & All Thrills await you at America's Biggest Indoor Water Park Hotel. Surf on Minnesota's only Flow Rider Surf Simulator, catch a wave in the Lake Superior wave pool or challenge your fears in America's longest indoor family raft ride at ten stories tall and over a mile long!  Come and enjoy the water park and spend the night.  Rooms can sleep up to 6 people. Each room will receive 4 water park passes.  Water park passes are valid for 24 hours from the time of check-in. Up to 2 additional passes per room can be purchased at the park for an additional $25.00 per pass.

Science Sparks

Join presenters from the Bakken Museum in Minneapolis as they bring science to you. They will bring along some great hands-on science projects.  Girls will use what they learn and make their own project to take home.

Skateville Family Fun

Come with your troop or family and enjoy a Girl Scout skating party!  Fees include roller-skate rental, a hot dog, pop, and chips.  You’ll also receive a free pass to come back and skate again.  Girls must be chaperoned by an adult.

Snow Shoeing at River Bend Nature Center

River Bend staff will help you get started by giving instruction and playing some games, then you’ll be on your own to explore the beautiful scenery at River Bend Nature Center. There are miles of trails to conquer! A participation patch is included. When you’ve finished, come inside and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. Come with your troop or spend the afternoon with mom or dad. Snowshoes are provided.

Snow Shoeing at Hyland Park

Experience a real winter getaway as you learn about the history and designs of snowshoes.  Strap on a pair of snowshoes for an exhilarating guided hike through the snow-covered woods.  Snowshoes and participation patch provided.

Ever wonder what Camp Singing Hills is all about?  Here’s your chance to find out.  Spend a couple of hours playing camp games, singing camp songs, and learning about everything else that you might do at camp.

Lights, Camera, Action

Come and be a star and showcase your talents to your family and friends or discover talents you didn’t know you had.  Playmakers is coming to help you create and perform a play complete with costumes and props.  Each girl will receive a part in the play, rehearse, and be ready for show time.  Brownie Girls will earn their “Let’s Pretend” Try-It.  Family and friends are invited to see the performance at the end of the class.  The performance lasts about 20 minutes. Try-It included.

Minnesota Children's Museum Try-It Workshops

Invent! Explore! Observe! Girls will participate in a 75-minute Try-It workshop. Included in the price of the workshop is the Try-It and admission to the Museum so you can explore as much as you want. Parking fees additional.

Saturday, February 2nd - Building Arts - Architects design buildings to be beautiful as well as functional. Girls will learn about how buildings and cities are designed before constructing a city together.  Each girl will plan and construct a miniature building.

Saturday, March 8th – Science Wonders - Scientists explore the world around them and conduct experiments that seem like magic. Girls will learn about everyday science in their lives. Each girl will make recycled paper, glue, paint and glurch while exploring the wonders of science.

Saturday, April 12th - My Body - Discover the amazing dramas that take place every day in our bodies.  Learn how the choices we make impact our health.

Saturday, April 19th - People of the World - In how many languages can you say “hello”? Increase that number as you learn different languages and games from around the world.

Space Explorer Overnight

This program is an adventure into the mysteries of space, and will complete the requirements for the Space Explorer Try-it. The program begins with meeting a University of Minnesota graduate student who studies astronomy.  Find out what astronomers do and what they have learned, see a slide show of the different planets in our solar system, and then examine a telescope and if it is a clear night, use it to look at stars and planets. Use a Giant Earth and a Moon Globe to figure out why our Moon is sometimes full and sometimes you can’t see it at all. Later make your own constellation and find out just how long it would take to travel to the stars and learn to read a star map and use celestial objects like the sun to tell time. Try-it included.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 

With a crash of drums and a flash of light, Joseph explodes onto Chanhassen's Main Stage in his dazzling coat of many colors! In a new staging of the record-breaking production, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's family classic is ready to excite a whole new generation.  This colorful retelling of the biblical story about Joseph, his uncanny abilities to interpret dreams and his designer coat, sings out to young and old alike with a score filled with wall-to-wall hits including: "Close Every Door," "Any Dream Will Do," "Those Canaan Days," "Go, Go, Go Joseph" and dozens more.

Winter Fun Day

Come celebrate winter at Elm Creek Park Reserve, where we make our own snow!   Enjoy cross-country skiing, snow tubing, polar putting, brrr bowling, broomball, medallion hunts, and more! Cross-country ski rentals are available and can be paid for at the beginning of the lesson ($4).  All other equipment provided.  See below listings for more Winter Fun Day options.

Want even more fun at Winter Fun Day?  Sign up for the downhill skiing or snowboard option.  You’ll still be able to enjoy the activities listed above! Cost of 1.5 hour lesson, equipment, and lift pass included in fee.  Girls must be in at least 2nd or 3rd grade to snowboard.

Welch Village Ski and Snowboard

Here’s your chance to hit the slopes and learn how to ski and snowboard.  You will receive a lesson on skis or snowboard or both. Then choose which one you’d like to try for the day.  Come as a troop or with your family. Try-It and Badge information packets will be available.  Cost includes lift ticket, equipment rental and one lesson.  Additional lesson and / or equipment change available for $10.00.  (Cost for lift ticket only is $30.00 per person).

Spots not Stripes

If you’re working on or have completed the Zink the Zebra patch program between March 2007 and February 2008 you will be invited to a special day of fun and learning.  There will be games, activities, crafts and snacks.  Girls will earn their Zink Acceptance patch bar.

The Great Girl Scout Climb

Are you ready for an adventure? Don’t miss this opportunity to try indoor rock climbing. Vertical Endeavors is one of the largest indoor rock climbing facilities in the world. With over 18,200 square feet of climbing surface, Vertical Endeavors is the place to climb! Over 60 separate ropes provide hundreds of climbing routes.  There’s a great beginner area as well as areas for experienced climbers.  Adults attending will be assisting girls with equipment.  Participation patch included.

Marvelous Maple Syrup

Sap to syrup!  Participate in the whole process - tap a tree, collect the sap, and boil it to make maple syrup.  Visit our Syrup Outpost to discover how early people used this gift of nature.  Sample a true taste of spring and earn your Maple-Syrup Try-It.  Try-It included.

Earth Day 2008

Come celebrate Earth Day 2008 with St. Olaf students and the Minnesota Zoo’s Zoomobile. The Zoomobile brings a variety of animals for an exciting, educational, fun program. In addition to the Zoomobile, there will also be lots of other fun activities to do. Bring a sack lunch and dress for the weather, activities will be both inside and outside. A participation patch is included.

Minnesota Children's Museum Camp-In

Your Brownie Girl Scout troop can spend the night at the Minnesota Children’s Museum in St. Paul. You’ll enjoy playtime in the exhibits, dinner, and hands-on workshops. After a full evening of fun you will have a snack and then camp overnight in one of the 6 galleries. In the morning, wake up to breakfast and take home an official Minnesota Children’s Museum Camp-In patch. Free parking is provided.

Celebrate Earth Day

Celebrate our green planet and make it a better place to live. Plant trees, pick up litter, play earth friendly games, have a picnic, compete in a recycling race, make crafts, and more!  Daisy troops will partner with older troops in order to learn what it means to be an earth-friendly Girl Scout.

Ready, Set, Go Camping

Receive a bandana and learn its many uses.  Tie knots, play camping games, and go on a hike.  Complete the requirements for the Ready-Set-Go Camping Try-It.  Try-It included.

Farm Scouts

Join a naturalist to explore the award winning Wells Fargo Family Farm and participate in hands-on activities. Learn about wild vs. domestic animals; farm animal communication as well as animal products such as butter & wool. The cost includes parking & admission so you can spend the day & explore the zoo.

Math and Science Day

Join the Women in Math and Science (WhIMS) from Carleton College and explore the wonders of math and science. Participate in fun hands-on activities and experiments in areas such as chemistry, biology, geology, and more. Bring a bag lunch. A participation patch is included.

Girl Scout Rendezvous

Tour Historic Murphy’s Landing at your own pace and meet costumed interpreters in at least six different businesses or homes.  Participate in hands-on activities, explore Minnesota history, play pioneer games, go on a pioneer scavenger hunt, and take a ride on the horse drawn wagon.  Curriculum packets are available with the self-guided walking tour. Bring a sack lunch.

Murphy’s Landing, Shakopee

Him & me fishing spree

Hook your dad, grandpa, or other favorite guy and spend some time fishing.  Learn the basics of fishing, proper casting techniques, how to bait a hook, and to identify common Minnesota fish.  Plenty of time will be available to practice your new skills along the shoreline.  Girls will receive a participation patch.  Fishing license not required for girls.  Adults attending will be assisting the girls; adults are welcome to fish if you bring your own equipment and have a current fishing license.

Camp Pepin Explorers

Spend the day at Camp Pepin exploring the outdoors.  During the day you’ll participate in a wide range of fun hands-on activities and games in sessions titled Water, Water, Everywhere, and Pioneer Games and Crafts.  Many of the activities completed relate to Brownie Try-Its.  Girl will also have the opportunity to conquer the climbing wall. Bring a bag lunch and dress for the weather.

‘Round & ‘round the World

Brownie Girl Scouts come and spend a day at Camp Singing Hills and earn your Brownie Girl Scouts Around the World Try-It.  Spend your day learning songs, crafts, games, facts, and activities from around the globe.  Please dress for the weather, to run around, and bring a bag lunch.  Try-It included.
