The following programs are offered by the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley. To register for a council sponsored program please fill out a Council Event Registration Form and return to the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley.

Program Aide Training (PA)  

Share all your years of Girl Scouting with others…help a younger troop, with day camp, and service unit events.  This training will prepare you to work with younger girls in many situations.  Learn new games and songs, camping skills, and leadership skills.  This training is a new and improved version of PA training.  If you’ve taken PA training before you may want to update your skills by registering for this new training. By attending this training you will receive your PA Pin.  Earn your PA patch by putting your skills to work for an additional 25 hours.

Low Ropes Adventure

Is your troop looking for a bonding experience to start off the troop year?  You may want to take advantage of the low ropes challenge course.  Spend time getting to know and trust each other as you use teamwork to complete different elements on this course.  Elements include the Spider’s Web, Giant’s Finger, Traversing wall, and Bosun’s Chair.

Geocaching and Letterboxing

Come and try some new ways of going on a scavenger hunt.  Letterboxing originated in England long ago and involves following a set of clues to find a container with a special stamp.  You’ll also create your own personal stamp to use.  Geocaching is a world wide fad.  It also involves finding something, this time by using latitude and longitude coordinates that you input into a Global Positioning System (GPS) unit. Find the ‘cache’, and you’re rewarded with a prize

MEA Day Camp-Program Aides Needed

If you are an enthusiastic and energetic Program Aide, then we would love to have your help during the MEA day camp at Camp Singing Hills.  Help us teach girls new songs and games.  You’ll also get the chance to help out with activities such as nature hikes, fire building, arts-n-crafts, archery, and water activities.  Contact Jennifer Tschida at the service center if you are interested, jennifert@gsccv.org.

Diva Day

Take time out of your busy school schedule to learn some positive ways to boost your energy and tips on how to relax when the stress just gets too big!  Activities for the day may include self-defense, yoga, belly-dancing and healthy cooking.

Harvest Festival
Celebrate autumn at our amazing harvest festival! Hayrides, straw pile searches, and pumpkin hunts will abound!  Work an apple press to make cider, race wheelbarrows, compete in the pumpkin roll relay, and enter the scarecrow contest with your troop.  Sample the many different flavors of the autumn harvest.

Halloween Family Walkabout

Bring the whole family out to camp for a great fall experience.  Build scarecrows, make crafts, tour a haunted house, take a hay ride, and much more.

Holiday Happenings

Get ready for the holidays by creating some fun crafts.  During the afternoon you can create gift bags, gift tags, and cards using all kinds of different techniques.  We’ll use die cuts, punches, stamps and more.  You can keep the items for yourself or use them as unique holiday gifts.

Fencing

En garde! Learn the fine art of fencing. Receive professional instruction in the use of an epee (fencing sword). Enjoy learning the basics, and in no time you will be sparring like a pro.  Girls receive a participation patch.

Geocaching

Introducing a new way to hunt for treasure!  Learn the basics of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. After mastering the buttons and basic functions of the GPS unit, use it to hunt through the park for hidden treasures.

Little Red Riding Hood

This funny and enchanting re-telling of Charles Perrault’s classic fairy tale is a great way to introduce youngsters to the fun and magic of live theater – complete with music, colorful costumes, marvelous sets and professional actors. This performance will be held exclusively for the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley. After the show the actors and actresses will be available for questions and autographs.  Participation patch included for all Girl Scouts.

Water Park of America

No Chills & All Thrills await you at America's Biggest Indoor Water Park Hotel. Surf on Minnesota's only Flow Rider Surf Simulator, catch a wave in the Lake Superior wave pool or challenge your fears in America's longest indoor family raft ride at ten stories tall and over a mile long!  Come and enjoy the water park and spend the night.  Rooms can sleep up to 6 people. Each room will receive 4 water park passes. Water park passes are valid for 24 hours from the time of check-in. Up to 2 additional passes per room can be purchased at the park for an additional $25.00 per pass.

Silver Award Workshop

Come to this workshop and learn what’s involved with earning the Silver Award.  We’ll go over the prerequisite requirements and what’s involved with the project itself.

Gold Award Workshop

Are you interested in learning more about earning the Gold Award?  Do you need some help getting started?  Did you know that many college and universities give scholarships to Gold Award recipients? There are many local organizations that also award scholarships each year and having earned a Gold Award will help your application.  Bring your questions and ideas and we’ll help you get started down the path to earning your Gold Award.

Skateville Family Fun

Come with your troop or family and enjoy a Girl Scout skating party!  Fees include roller-skate rental, a hot dog, pop, and chips.  You’ll also receive a free pass to come back and skate again. Girls must be chaperoned by an adult.

Snow Shoeing at River Bend Nature Center

River Bend staff will help you get started by giving instruction and playing some games, then you’ll be on your own to explore the beautiful scenery at River Bend Nature Center.  There are miles of trails to conquer!  A participation patch is included.  When you’re finished, come inside and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate.  Come with your troop or spend the afternoon with mom or dad.  Snowshoes are provided.

Ever wonder what Camp Singing Hills is all about?  Here’s your chance to find out.  Spend a couple of hours playing camp games, singing camp songs, and learning about everything else that you might do at camp.

X-Country Skiing

Experience one of Minnesota’s favorite winter sports, a fun whole body workout.  This beginner’s classic ski class covers: striding, stopping, uphill and downhill techniques, and poling.  Practice your skills on a ski trail.  Ski rental needs to be paid at the park the day of the class ($4.00 per person).

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 

With a crash of drums and a flash of light, Joseph explodes onto Chanhassen's Main Stage in his dazzling coat of many colors! In a new staging of the record-breaking production, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's family classic is ready to excite a whole new generation.  This colorful retelling of the biblical story about Joseph, his uncanny abilities to interpret dreams and his designer coat, sings out to young and old alike with a score filled with wall-to-wall hits including: "Close Every Door," "Any Dream Will Do," "Those Canaan Days," "Go, Go, Go Joseph" and dozens more.

Winter Fun Day

Come celebrate winter at Elm Creek Park Reserve, where we make our own snow!   Enjoy cross-country skiing, snow tubing, polar putting, brrr bowling, broomball, medallion hunts, and more! Cross-country ski rentals are available and can be paid for at the beginning of the lesson ($4.00).  All other equipment provided.  See below listings for more Winter Fun Day options.

Winter Wilderness Weekend

Enjoy the winter with a “cabin campout” at the Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement, a small camp of eight cabins and a large heated multi-purpose lodge near Maple Plain.  Sleep in rustic cabins equipped with wood-burning stoves, lanterns, and bunks with mattresses.  In the main lodge there is a full service kitchen available for lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday morning.  Saturday night we’ll cook dinner together.  Activities will include snowshoeing, a survival challenge, building snow shelters, a craft and more.  The Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement will provide all firewood needed for heating as well as all supplies needed if you choose to cook outside over a campfire, all cabins have an outside fire ring.  Refrigeration is available.  Participants are responsible for their own meal planning and food.  Cabins sleep 8; depending on the size of the troop you may be sharing a cabin with another troop.  All cabins must have 2 adults.

Welch Village Ski and Snowboard

Here’s your chance to hit the slopes and learn how to ski and snowboard.  You will receive a lesson on skis or snowboard or both. Then choose which one you’d like to try for the day.  Come as a troop or with your family. Try-It and Badge information packets will be available.  Cost includes lift ticket, equipment rental and one lesson.  Additional lesson and / or equipment change available for $10.00.  (Cost for lift ticket only is $30.00 per person).

The Great Girl Scout Climb

Are you ready for an adventure? Don’t miss this opportunity to try indoor rock climbing. Vertical Endeavors is one of the largest indoor rock climbing facilities in the world. With over 18,200 square feet of climbing surface, Vertical Endeavors is the place to climb! Over 60 separate ropes provide hundreds of climbing routes.  There’s a great beginner area as well as areas for experienced climbers.  Adults attending will be assisting girls with equipment.  Participation patch included.

Whether you are shipwrecked on a desert island or stranded in the Canadian Wilderness, there are skills you must know in order to survive and be rescued.  Come immerse yourself in different scenarios and learn how to be a survivor.

Celebrate Earth Day

Celebrate our green planet and make it a better place to live. Plant trees, pick up litter, play earth friendly games, have a picnic, compete in a recycling race, make crafts, and more!  Daisy troops will partner with older troops in order to learn what it means to be an earth-friendly Girl Scout.

Me and My Guy Spring Fling

Bring your dad, uncle or grandpa out to camp for a weekend of fixin' up fun.  Spend time learning and doing some tricks of the trade as you help get camp ready for the summer.  Learn to use a drill, paintbrush, hammer and broom.  You'll also get a chance to do some fun camp activities as well -- archery, crafts, and canoeing.

Girl Scout Rendezvous

Tour Historic Murphy’s Landing at your own pace and meet costumed interpreters in at least six different businesses or homes.  Participate in hands-on activities, explore Minnesota history, play pioneer games, go on a pioneer scavenger hunt, and take a ride on the horse drawn wagon.  Curriculum packets are available with the self-guided walking tour. Bring a sack lunch.

Beginning Kayaking

Come and learn the basics of kayaking, including paddle strokes and water safety with the friendly, knowledgeable instructors from Three Rivers Park District.  Enjoy a paddle along Hyland Lake’s shore.  Bring a change of clothes and shoes that can get wet.

Canoeing Basics

Learn canoeing skills in this beginner’s class, including equipment selection, basic strokes, and getting in and out of the canoe without tipping!  Try out your new skills canoeing on the lake.  (Only one adult per troop may sign up to canoe; adult may duff.)

Scuba Diving

Discover Scuba Diving.  In this intro class you’ll learn general scuba skills and concepts, both in and out of the water.  A signed waiver and parent permission are required.  Patches are available for an additional $2.00 per patch.

Silver and Gold Award Ceremony

Girls who have completed their Silver Award Project by April 1, 2008 and have submitted the appropriate paperwork to the office will be invited to take part in the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley’s Silver and Gold Award Ceremony and Reception.  Those girls who have completed the Gold Award process will also be in attendance.  The ceremony will take place on May 18th, 2008 in Cannon Falls.  For more information on Silver or Gold Awards please contact the council office or check our website.

In the summer of 2009, the council will be taking a trip to Washington DC.  Girls currently in 6th grade and older along with their adult chaperone are eligible to attend this trip.  For more information or to add your name to the contact list email Cori (cori@gsccv.org) at the council service center.  There will be a planning meeting in the spring of 2008.
